So as I said earlier today (had a bit of time on my hands this afternoon, clearly) I am in full recovery mode after a busy old week.  Monday saw new cocktails trialled at Carmines, Tuesday brought good times and tasty cupcakes, Wednesday brought fun times and muchos drinkies in The Narrow at Limehouse and of course this morning saw the return of the BernieBrunch.  I really do love that word.

I am also training for the Three Peaks Challenge in June (or May, the organising committee hasn’t got that far yet).  It’s going to be great fun, although I have read much about this endeavour and in retrospect, it sounds more gruelling and dare I say- dangerous- than enjoyable.  It is being done through work and will obviously be for charity, so as soon as we have the link to the charity site, I’ll be rattling my tin cup.

I haven’t practised much for the challenge as the weather has been mildly cold and I got a bit of toothache a month ago, but I figured that after a weekend on being sat on my arse eating brunch and watching the F1, I should get active, STAT.  So straight after Jenson Button cleaned up in Oz, I gave the walk a, um, pretty good walking.

The route is long but distinguished.  I figured I would separate it into three sections so I could practise a little bit at a time if I ever become bone-idle;

  • Section 1 (Orange): Limehouse to Greenwich
    • Via Westferry, Millwall, Island Gardens and the Foot Tunnel
  • Section 2 (Yellow): Greenwich to Tower Bridge
  • Section 3 (Green): Tower Bridge to the big HMV on Oxford Street
    • Via More London, South Bank, Golden Jubilee Bridges, Embankment, Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus and Carnaby Street.
  • Via Deptford Reach, Greenland Dock, Rotherhithe, Surrey Quays and Butler’s Wharf

I love the walk; takes me through all the areas of London I love, and then there are shops at the end.  I worked out the length of the route at roughly 10 to 11 miles, but more accurate calculations are welcome.

I’ll start timing the walks; hopefully I will be fit enough to start jogging it soon…

18 March 2012:

  • Section 1: 0hr 47
  • Section 2: 1hr 21
  • Section 3: 1hr 04
  • Total: 3 hours 12 minutes (off my life that I will never get back)

So, first goal; get it lower than 3 hours!

Wish me luck (god, my feet hurt).
